Sandboards & Sandboard Holders – flexible, magnetic & ready for every adventure
Share
Sandboards are simply a must for many offroad, beach, and van life adventures. Whether at the campsite, in the snow, at festivals or on the beach – they're quickly mounted, just as quickly stored away again, and extremely versatile.
So that transport and attachment remain as relaxed as the adventure itself, you'll find at 040 parts a well-thought-out system of sandboards, screw-on and magnetic sandboard holders – robust, flexible, and proven in practice.
Our Sandboards Compared
At first glance, our sandboards differ mainly in length and color. In practice, this is exactly what determines how much contact surface you have under the tires.
| Model | Length | Width | Color | Use / Load Capacity |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sandboard short (black) | short | Standard | Black | Ideal for lighter vehicles & occasional use (up to 10 t load capacity) |
| Sandboard long (black) | long | Standard | Black | Maximum contact surface for heavy vans (up to 10 t load capacity) |
| Sandboard long (orange) | long | Standard | Orange | Same function, but super visible in the terrain (up to 10 t load capacity) |
All variants are extremely stable, weatherproof, and designed for repeated use in offroad, camping, and winter environments.
Often underestimated: Sandboards can do more than just sand
- ✔ as a shovel replacement
- ✔ in snow & ice
- ✔ in mud, grass, or soft ground
Especially in winter or on wet ground, sandboards are often the quickest helper – sometimes even a sensible replacement for snow chains.
Sandboard Holders Compared – Screw, Magnet, or Both
Just as important as the board itself is the right attachment. Here we distinguish between classic screw-on holders and magnetic solutions.
| Holder | Installation | Magnet usable | Lockable | Special features |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Screw-on holder (Standard) | Screw-on holder | No | Yes | Classic, robust, permanently mounted |
| Screw-on holder wide (fits Maxtrax) | Screw-on holder | No | Yes | Wider adjustable, ideal for Maxtrax & many other models |
| Magnetic sandboard holder | Screw & Magnet | Yes | Yes | Quick to mount, flexibly removable (magnet can also be used as screw-on holder) |
| Magnetic sandboard holder PRO | Screw & Magnet | Yes | Yes | Extra variable: magnets & bolts more flexibly positionable, additional elongated holes, also fits Maxtrax |
Sandboards aren't offroad toys – they're real everyday helpers
Many people immediately think of hardcore offroad, deserts, and 4x4 vehicles when they hear sandboards. The reality: most campers don't have 4x4 – and it's precisely these vehicles that benefit most from sandboards in everyday life.
Due to the high vehicle weight, vans get stuck on soft ground extremely quickly – often faster than a normal car.
Typical everyday situations
- Beach & coast – e.g., St. Peter-Ording: Anyone who wants to park at the front often can't get out without sandboards.
- Snow & winter – snowy parking lots, slushy snow.
- Festivals & meadows – waterlogged ground after rain.
- Wild camping & farm tracks – moist grass turf, soft ground.
From our own experience: Sandboards are used almost every time at St. Peter-Ording – not just for us, but for other campers too. Often you save yourself a tow truck service for €50 or more.
Small emergency tip for everyone without sandboards
- Slightly reduce tire pressure – even a little less bar can work wonders.
- Drive off slowly, don't let the wheels spin.
- Then reinflate (small 12-V compressor or bike pump in an emergency).
More practical tips on how to get yourself out of such situations can be found here:

Note on magnetic holding force & safety
The stated holding forces of magnets always apply under ideal conditions (perpendicular pull direction).
In everyday use, additional forces act on them:
- Lateral force (side panel, tailgate)
- Own weight of the sandboards
- Wind load, which increases significantly with speed
- Surface condition (moisture, dust, dirt) affects friction
Our magnetic holders are proven in everyday use, but we always recommend an additional loss prevention security.
Our recommendation
- Rubber-coated cables
- Paint-friendly
- Simultaneous theft protection
Especially useful in big cities – usually not necessary at campsites or in offroad use.
More magnetic accessories – more than just sandboards
- Magnetic table – usable inside & outside
- Magnetic kitchen roll holder – perfect for interior & outdoor kitchen
Many of our Molle-Boards are magnet-compatible and offer secure, stable attachment directly on the vehicle.
Conclusion
Sandboards and the appropriate holders aren't offroad gimmicks – they're real everyday helpers for campers.
Whether screwed on or magnetic – you stay flexible, safe, and save yourself stress, time, and money if it comes down to it.
Simply mount. Drive safely. Enjoy the adventure.
